The White Coat Ceremony is an annual event that serves as a rite of passage for first-year Physician Assistant students as they enter into their clinical year of school. Putting on a white coat for the first time indicates a student’s completion of didactic training and welcomes them into their new role as a student clinician. The coat symbolizes the trust bestowed on the student to treat patients with compassion, empathy, and competence to carry on the respectable tradition of the Physician Assistant profession. After the coats are received, students recite the historic Hippocratic Oath, where they pledge to uphold a certain set of ethical standards throughout their future career as a Physician Assistant. By choosing to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant, the Class of 2019 has committed their professional lives to serving their community by providing affordable access to quality healthcare as the demand increases. The PA profession was founded as a means of decreasing the shortage of primary care physicians in the US, and these students will work tirelessly for 27 months in both academics and clinical practice to fulfill this goal
We thank all of our parents, friends, and supporters along the way!
