The Swimathon is in support of the family of Nicholas Dworet, a swimmer who lost his life in the Parkland, Florida school shooting

Our Story

The NSU Swimathon is an event being run by the Nova Southeastern University(NSU) Club Swim Team. The purpose for the Swimathon is to raise money in support of the family of Nicholas Dworet, who was one of the victims in the recent school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Nicholas was in his senior year of high school and was a member Marjory Stoneman Douglas's swim team. He was due to attend the University of Indianapolis in the Fall with scholarships in both academics and swimming. Many of the students throughout the Florida area swam against Nicholas and his team when they were in high school and are deeply affected by his passing. The Swimathon will be an 8 hour event on March 18, 2018 where sponsors can select a swimmer who will be swimming laps, the sponsor will donate an amount of money determined by the amount of laps their swimmer swims(ex. $0.25 per lap). All profits will be sent to the Dworet family to help them with this great loss. NSU has reached out to the other club sports on campus for help along with the swim teams throughout Florida and the University of Indianapolis, where Nicholas was to be a part of the swim team, about participating in the Swimathon. Several teams have already sent confirmation about their intent to participate in the event. It is our hope to raise at least $2500 for the Dworet family. We would like to thank everyone for their support in this endeavor!

For the pledges made to me and/or Azura Masters. Thank you to my donors Ines Garcia, Andre Ordine, Madeleine Madden, and Sonia Nunez. And Thank you Luis Comulada and Hammerhead Aquatics to also come out to swim and support. To Nicholas' family - there is no doubt your son was with us on Sunday and that he shines through you. Thank you for letting us be a part.

Thanks to the coordinators of this event and to all the swimmers who donated their time. I'm happy to be able to help one of the grieving families of Parkland. And much love to my Maya. <3
